Matt Baume’s History of Queer TV

I’ve recently discovered a series of Youtube videos that are fun, entertaining, well researched, and informative. Matt Baume writes about pop culture often through a queer lens. He has a series of videos looking at the queer history of TV (and sometimes movies). What I’ve come to learn is that the history of TV is queerer than I thought especially when you look behind the scenes and at the intentions of the creators.

So far I’ve watched videos on Barney Miller, gay bar mysteries (and how Starksy & Hutch did a better job with the storyline than Murder She Wrote), Soap, Frazier, and Deep Space Nine. Embedded below are a small selection of some episodes. Check them out when you have a chance!
